Xavi Déu

Born in Barcelona, he studied painting at La Llotja in Barcelona and engraving at the Escola Industrial. Various courses in chalcographic and carborundum engraving at the Escola Internacional de Calella, taught by Jordi Rosès and Jordi Alcaraz. Experimental engraving at the Centre d’art La rectoria in Vilamajor. Courses on “Natura sonora”, taught by Eloisa Matheu. A turning point in the artist’s training was meeting and collaborating with the directors and curators of the Museum of Natural Sciences and the Museum of Music in Barcelona, as well as with the head of the photo library Alexandre Martínez and Eloisa Matheu, from Natura sonora.

He has exhibited his works and installations in various art centres and galleries, as well as at international fairs.

He was part of the exhibition “Metaphysics of fragility. From avant-garde to conceptual art”, curated by Pilar Parcerisas. At the Fundació Vallpalou, September-December 2021. In this case, the sculptural works showed of the link between the artist’s work and heat as a generator of forms and thoughts.

He participated in the exhibition “A Joseph Beuys”, curated by Vicenç Altaió. At the Huc Malla gallery. with the video installation “Apiarium” which referred to wax as a recurring material of the artist Xavier Déu and some works by Beuys and Steiner, the latter as a thinker.

Solo exhibition at the Centre Art Santa Mònica, entitled “Tots els ocells del món” (All the birds of the world). It was about the alchemy of materials and words: Plomo/plomo (lead/lead), a series of lead bullets were melted to transform them into the classic printing typography that gave the exhibition its title.

He has collaborated with galleries such as Galeria Metropolitana, Bcn, Galeria Cadaqués Huc Malla, Espai Tactel, València, Clare M. Sels, Alemanya, Rocío Santa Cruz, Bcn and currently with the Pigment Gallery in BCN. He has been present at fairs such as Arco, Art Colonia, Swab, Kiaf or ArteSantander, among others. He participated in the publication “Cave cannis”, MACBA Collection. He is present in collections such as the “Col-lecció Josep Maria Civit”, “Olor Visual”, La Caixa and other private collections.
