He is currently the director of La Nuu, the Rubí International Photography Festival, which he has led since 2016, and the founding president of Ull per Ull, a cultural association dedicated to artistic experimentation. Mercader is also the editor of WATUSI, a recently launched free cultural magazine focused on urban culture and the city of Barcelona.
His work falls within the cultural framework that critic Eloy Fernández Porta calls afterpop, where the boundaries between high and low culture completely dissolve. Her imagery draws from the avant-garde, Situationism, and the aesthetic marginality of lowbrow art. Mercader’s practice investigates the crisis of the image linked to the implosion of traditional narratives, the fragmentation of the contemporary self, and the fictional nature of all identity, whether personal or collective.
