About Sergi Sànchez

It all started with the stories my father told me. Adventures that wove together in my imagination, creating memories from the fascinating stories he shared when he returned home after long months of traveling through Africa. My father worked as a merchant marine and in his every home return were accompanied by a series of fascinating objects such as beautiful masks, figures and peculiar objects that were as seductive as the stories that accompanied each discovery.

The definitive impact came at the age of eighteen, when I decided to personally explore the wonders that I had always been told about. My first trip to Africa marked the beginning of a connection that lasts year after year. Beyond the art that always impressed me, I was captivated by the beauty of the landscapes, the warm hospitality of the people and the intensity that permeates every corner of their towns.

The pieces that now make up my collection represent a logical evolution that is the result of extraordinary searches and findings. Over the years, I have sold numerous pieces from various African cultures, some of exceptional value. Observing how these works were integrated into the collections of friends, clients and even some museums inspired me to forge my own collection of African art, made up of unique pieces of immense personal, artistic and cultural value.

Each work that we exhibit at the Galeria Sergi Sánchez has been acquired directly in the countries of origin, after many professional efforts.
