Antonio Amat, visual artist, began his artistic journey at the Art School of Barcelona, where he explored a wide range of disciplines, techniques, and artistic theories. During his studies, Amat immersed himself in a rich artistic tradition, refining his technique and broadening his creative vision.

His artistic personality was first recognized with the award for Best Local Artist in Martorell, Barcelona, an achievement that marked the beginning of his career on the art scene. Amat went on to participate in numerous art events, exhibitions, and live painting sessions, building a reputation as a versatile and passionate artist. His first solo exhibition took place at the emblematic Celler de Arte Cal Nicolau in Barcelona, which provided a key platform to showcase his emerging talent.

In his early creative years, Amat was influenced by the surrealism of Salvador Dalí. This influence is evident in the complexity and symbolism of his early works, characterized by boundless imagination and meticulous technique. Throughout this period, he explored various disciplines and artistic expressions, including painting and sculpture, moving through creative phases such as surrealism, constructivism, and abstraction. His interest in cultural and philosophical diversity led him to study and experiment with anthropology, prehistoric cultures, ancient and Greek philosophy, as well as the ideas of Socrates, Plato, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, and Carl Gustav Jung. He also incorporated elements of Zen and Japanese kintsugi, enriching his work with spiritual and philosophical depth.

Antonio Amat has dedicated himself professionally to artistic creation, developing a personal and distinctive language, which is evident in his numerous exhibitions in cities such as Barcelona, New York, Paris, Berlin, and Milan. His participation in both national and international art fairs, such as Spike Art in New York, has solidified his position in the art market. His exhibitions have been praised by critics as “a significant contribution to contemporary art” and have described him as “a key figure in the international art scene with a unique and individual vision of abstract art.”

The publishing house Editorial Mediterránea released a monograph titled Antoni Amat, written by Conxita Oliver, documenting his artistic and philosophical evolution. This publication underscored the importance of his work and his influence on contemporary art.

Amat later began to incorporate a third dimension into his work, experimenting with new materials and conceptual variables. These pieces reflect an expanded expressive range, transforming the familiar into a space for intellectual play and artistic exploration. The strength of gesture and vibrant light became defining features of his work, consolidating his creative voice and infusing his canvases with a vital, dynamic energy.

He has collaborated with the Maeght Gallery in Barcelona, where he has held both solo and group exhibitions. One of his most significant shows, The Enigma of Alchemy, featured medium- and large-format works that captured the depth and maturity of his creative universe. This collection included unique pieces from the Enigma of Alchemy series, as well as a group of sculptures reflecting his artistic evolution and conceptual message.

Amat also collaborated with Etra Fine Art Gallery in Miami, USA, where he regularly exhibited his work in both solo and group shows, as well as at international art fairs. His work was included in the exhibition We the Artists at the National Museum of Trinidad and Tobago, curated by Nicollette Ramírez, alongside internationally renowned artists such as Marina Abramovic, Spencer Tunick, Anselm Reyle, and Ashley Bickerton.

He exhibited in Miami, participating in events such as Art Basel Miami and Art Miami Fair, while maintaining a presence at the Maeght Gallery in Barcelona.

He created the Unlimited series, representing the evolution of his work by exploring the materialization of gesture, its expansion and transgression. Unlimited delved into the freedom and vastness of artistic movement, taking the concept of gesture beyond two-dimensional representation into tangible three-dimensional form. Amat used a vibrant palette and mixed techniques to challenge convention and explore new frontiers of artistic expression. These works invite the viewer into a dynamic dialogue between artwork and space, expanding the possibilities of interaction and perception.

His work has been exhibited in various cities and countries, including Vanrell Gallery in Palma de Mallorca, the Castle of Benedormiens in Castell d’Aro (Girona), Espacio Beny in Vigo, and Etra Fine Art Gallery in Miami.

The concepts of origin, essence, and contemporaneity have been central to Antonio Amat’s work, continuously evolving throughout his career as a contemporary artist.
